ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA)

&

TRIBAL TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM (TTP)

IN RECENT HISTORY THE CHUKCHANSI HAVE BEEN A LANDLESS TRIBE.  WE ARE SLOWLY REACQUIRING OUR LAND SO WE CAN TEACH OUR CHILDREN ABOUT A RESPECT FOR PLACE, HOUSE OUR PEOPLE, PROTECT OUR NATURAL RESOURCES, AND CARE FOR OUR ROADS AND INFRASTRUCTURE.

Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians EPA Department receives several grants that enable us to protect our environment on our tribal properties.

    •  General Assistance Protection Grant (GAP) – This grant funds our Environmental Department which works on environmental assessment, environmental planning, Geographic Information Systems, map-making technology, Tribal emergency notification plans, and much more.
    • Clean Water Act (CWA) 106 – Focusing on overland water that runs through Tribal lands, water is tested for metals, minerals, and other properties.  Well water on allotment lands is tested for total coliforms and heterotrophic plate count, which identifies the presence or absence of bacteria in the water.
    • Clean Water Act (CWA) 319 includes Non-Point Source Pollution (NPS) Grant – Non-Point Pollution occurs when rainfall, snowmelt, or irrigation runs over land or through the ground, picks up pollutants and deposits them into rivers or lakes, or introduces them into groundwater.  This grant helps to protect our groundwaters, creeks, streams, and ponds.
    • The Tribal Transportation Program (TTP) Grant – PRCI mission is to provide safe and adequate transportation and public road access to and within on our tribal properties and contributes to our economic development, self–determination, and employment for our tribal members and community.

Mission Statement:

The Picayune Environmental Department is dedicated to protecting and restoring our environmental and cultural resources through enhancing self determination of our Tribe.
